| 9th May 2004 - Man of the Match!!! | Tony was voted Man of the Match for his outstanding pitching performance against the Bolton Brewers. He allowed just 6 hits and one Earned Run. He had incredible control and still had his amazing knee buckling curve - Top performance from a player who normally plays... well... every position we need him to!!! |
| 10th August 2003 - Tony continues with good hitting numbers, increases stolen bases | Tony again hit well for the Barnsley Strikers in 2003. Perhaps more remarkably he increased his stolen bases total by 2 to "nick" 5! Tony is able to read pitchers well and with good jumps can use his speed to take any bag not fully protected. |
The Player
|
Tony has more experience than any Striker in the game of baseball. He is able to use this knowledge well to analyze game situations, using this at the plate and to help others. He has still got power and great hand-eye coordination. He rarely strikes out against anyone but the fastest pitchers, when his bat isn't quite as fast as it once was. He can place the ball where he likes when hitting, often going the other way to find the gaps. He is able to steal bases should teams take liberties against him, and never makes mistakes on the basepaths. In the field Tony must have played more positions than anyone this season, playing all with his good glove and still strong arm. He is not afraid to let the ball hit him to get an out in the infield, has good range in the outfield and doesn't even mind stepping up to the rubber for one more final curve ball. His ability to throw perfectly accurate batting practice should not be underestimated either in its contribution to the hitting abilities of the Barnsley players. One player Barnsley greatly miss when he's unavailable. 2003 Profile -
The oldest player on Barnsley's Squad and now the longest serving player.
(Perhaps even within the BBF). Tony has retired twice from the Strikers
but we just won't let him go. Playing all defensive positions Tony is
solid wherever he is needed. Being the most adaptive Barnsley Striker
Tony plays well week in, week out. Whilst Tony is the first to admit that, over the
years, he has lost a little bat and running speed, his bat is still as
clever as ever. He is able to still hit the fastball due to his in-depth
knowledge of the game, and not many can sneak a cheeky curveball by him.
Has to work hard to get on base, but does with remarkable proficiency.
A great ball player.
