| 16th May 2004 - Barnsley's ace returns!!! | Guess who's back... back again!!! (Sorry poor Eminem joke). Kris travelled to Glasgow with the team believing he had a shoulder so knackered it should have been on Nigel's body... Not so! After a dodgy start where every hit seemed to find a gap, Kris dug in and produced shut-out ball from the old days. A great fast ball added to a great curve was fun to watch, but having said that... FORGET THE CURVE... THROW HIM THE HEATER! A great pitching performance from Barnsley's Ace, there will be more wins to come should Kris be able to keep the pain away. |
| 4th April 2004 - 3 run homer in first pre-season game 2004 | Kris chalked up 3 RBI's in a huge home run against a combined manchester team today. The hit was so big that even without a home run fence, the umpire didn't hesitate to call it a four-bagger. More impressive was that Kris had fouled the previous pitch onto his foot, and was in danger of being taken out of the game, no Kirk Gibson type home run trot though... poor effort! |
| 10th August 2003 - Kris leads power numbers for second year running | 2002 Slugging and Home Run champion Kris Allott has won both titles again. With his single Home Run that none of the other strikers could match and a Slugging Percentage of .639. Kris remained the Strikers Cleanup hitter and further cements this position for 2004. His power numbers even more impressive considering his shoulder injury throughout the season. |
| 27th April 2003 - Kris hits Home Run in first game of season | Kris Allott continued where he left off 2002, hitting a two run shot against title contenders the Shropshire panthers, over the right-centre field fence. |
The Player
|
Kris was unable to continue his pitching form in 2003 due to a lasting shoulder injury and poorer control. Despite this he had occasional great performances reaching the heights of 2001 and 2002, such as striking out 15+ twice in the season. With the new season approaching Barnsley must hope that Kris' arm problems are over, and with the new benefit of a mound, he should be able to outshine all previous seasons numbers. If he can control pitches from the mound and continue to gain break on his slurve he could lead Barnsley to a title in 2004. At bat Kris has the most power of the current squad, and is a great contact hitter when needed. He often forces defenses to pitch and field him differently, his job is to drive in runs, and he loves to do it. His reputation has started to follow him now, and this should force him to rethink his approach at the plate. Perhaps this reputation contributed to his lower batting average in 2003, with pitchers not daring to give him the bread and butter pitches he can drive. Needed and got the back up in Chris Hunton he needed which helped his number increase at the back end of the year. On the Base paths Chris is never afraid to take bases and stretch singles into doubles. He will always take the chance to take home plate on even the shortest of passed balls, and really the only Striker who regularly steals third. 2003 Profile - Barnsley's Ace pitcher has played since he was a youngster, following his father to the team. K has developed a good fastball which he is able to spot on the corners. Within the heart of the order he is able to climb the ladder with accuracy, striking out power hitters. This season K is able to spot a new backdoor slider which is now his main strike out pitch. Add to this a curve ball and K has the potential to win matches almost single handed. Against the best teams, Kris does struggle when his fastball isn't hot, but hopefully those Sunday's will be few and far between. However, being highly strung he is able to battle on no matter what arm situation arises come match day. Kris hopes that the very successful pitching history of the Allott family will continue within the BBF for as long as possible. (See T Allott) This season Kris has been a home run demon, hitting three in three games, including a grand slam against the then league leading Shropshire Panthers. He has very good speed and isn't afraid to push for that extra base, contributing to the cycle he hit last week. Teams will start to pitch around him unless we can protect him better.
