| 2nd May 2004 - Man of the Match!!! | Voted man of the match for his performance in today's local derby, Chris was the only decent hitter in an otherwise poor team display, if he keeps this up he'll win the batting title he narrowly missed out on in 2003... illustrating his amazing rise up the strikers batting order since his return in 2002! |
| 10th August 2003 - Hunton top run scorer and producer 2003 | Chris Hunton is the RBI and Run leader (shared) for the Strikers in 2003. After only his second season back in the Barnsley strip (after a break of three years), Chris lead the RBI category from the beginning of the year, despite hitting at the 7th spot. Under protest he was moved to hit in the 5th spot for the years final games, helping increase his RBI total futher. His number of runs decreased after he moved up the order but Barnsley will hope that the the lower end of the order will improve in the coming season, having completed their rookie seasons. Chris' numbers should improve his confidence greatly, hopefully helping Barnsley to a 2004 title in the newly organised Northern conferance divisions. |
| 22nd June 2003 - Chris moved up the order to 5th after fantastic first half. | After losing his team lead for total RBI's to Kilkenny and Allott (Kris) last week against Liverpool, Chris has been moved up to 5th in the batting order, directly behind these two players. This helped Chris hit in 2 RBI's, (with 3 runs) against the Manchester A's, and looks like a permenant line-up change for the rest of the year, despite protests from the man himself! Hopefully this will make the middle of the order stronger for the Strikers, with the three hottest Barnsley players hitting back-2-back, hopefully helping to repeat results like the win against the now league leading (*now division champions - ed.) Hull team in the season opener. |
| 1st June 2003 - Chris is Ejected in his best performance of season. | Against the Shropshire Panthers, Chris hit a line-drive double only to be ejected from the game for hitting the umpire with the bat. After a previous warning the umpire had little choice, although there was minimal contact on both. |
The Player
|
After missing a few seasons due to work commitments, Chris is now starting to notch up great hitting numbers week in week out. After leading the team in strike outs in the 2002 season he has been able to drop his K's significantly whilst also increasing his power numbers, no easy feat! Leading the team in both RBI's and Runs last season bigger things will be expected from Hunton in 2004 at the plate and hopefully he'll be able to match this. One significant quality is that with runners on base he actually has a higher batting average than without. In the field Chris needs to continue to work on picking up those slow bouncers down the left field line (which will be helped by the new field situation - see news on home page), but has a strong arm if he manages to catch the ball cleanly, if not sometimes a little wayward. When he remembers to bend his back and set those feet Chris can get even the fastest runners out, potentially a good third baseman, but at the moment an indespendible bat. 2003 profile... Chris
was a regular in the team until three years ago when he left to travel
the world and then work in Bedfordshire. Since his return he has been
'promoted' from the outfield to third base, where he is holding his own.
Learning to take tag plays is often difficult but Chris is gaining more
confidence with this each week. He will be a solid infielder at the end
of this season, already able to glove ground balls on the difficult "Siberian"
diamond. Recently Barnsley have caught a few stealing 3rd proving Hunton
is settling in well. |
